I heard some rattling sounds inside as I was setting it on my work table, so I opened it up and found two broken plastic pieces. These were not broken off in shipping, because a force sufficient to cause such breakage would have also broken the exterior of the timer, but there was not even a scratch to the exterior, let alone a sign of a serious impact. Because of these broken-off pieces, the timer did not work. So this device is poorly designed and/or badly manufactured. It is also difficult to program because you cannot just use your fingers to depress the timing pins, but must use an external object like a screwdriver. If you want a good timer that comes unbroken and is easily programmed, try the Sylvania Model SA110. If you want an even better timer than the Sylvania, one that has more programmable functions (but correspondingly more instructions to study and implement), try the excellent Intermatic 7-Day Digital Timer Model DT17.
